The BP oil spill & resulting oil slick comes from 3 underwater leaks that occurred after the Transocean disaster when the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded & sank on April 20 killing 11 workers. Currently no organized plan seems to be effectively working. We need to get this plan implemented immediately to prevent even further disaster from this ecological catastrophe. This is well intentioned, but it seems to me you've never really been in the GOM, or on any ocean surface, for that matter. Your opening comment on scale undermines this entire idea. The diameter distances alone are like driving 70mph for 1-4 hours; the circumference alone is about? 700+ miles, and you suggest a series of continuous perfect circles? Try about 10000 sets of circles each about 1/1000 the size of what you suggest here and there might be a plan.

how would the crews ...
how would the crews and vessels swap out when the shift ends or they need refueling and maintenance? Will each boom have to have a gated portion for them to pass through? That means someone to watch, monitor and operate that as well. Also... that is a lot of boom you are talking about 100s of miles worth, likely into the? thousands.
